| Identify Community Issues |
|
We brought together teams of community members and local experts in the areas of Health, Education, and Financial Self-Sufficiency, who worked with our board to identify and select the most critical components in each of these areas. The work of these community members, in combination with the most current research and data, resulted in a set of core indicators – features that form the foundation of a successful community. We recognize that we must work together, as a community, in order to achieve meaningful results. United Way will not only evaluate individual programs and agencies on their outcomes, but will also look at the overall impact of our work as a whole in order to truly see how we are making a difference for the people of Herkimer and Oneida Counties. The decision to use Community Goals to achieve lasting change is modeled after United Way Worldwide’s recommendations. We have growing needs within our community and shrinking resources. The enormity of the issues facing our community is well beyond the capacity of any individual, neighborhood, organization, or government entity to solve alone. The current process needs to change in order to meet the evolving and complex needs of the people that we serve. Our community, in turn, must continue to consistently and methodically expect more of ourselves and of others. |
