Your contribution to the United Way stays local and is strategically and thoughtfully invested back into our community through impact funding. United Way of the Valley & Greater Utica Area has designated November 2007 as "Community Impact Awareness Month." Stay tuned throughout the month to learn more about the impact areas we fund through partner programs and services.

If every current donor in our community increases his or her current contribution by $1 per week, United Way would raise an additional $1 million for programs and services in our community.

About Community Impact Funding
Community Impact has been embraced as a strategy to achieve the mission of the United Way of the Valley and the Greater Utica Area. Community Impact is the process that determines the allocation of funds to programs and services. There are five areas of Community Impact that have been identified for the strategic use of the community's resources. These areas are:
- Keeping Kids on Track
- Strengthening Families
- Promoting Self-Sufficiency
- Supporting Aging Populations
- Building Safe & Vital Neighborhoods
The United Way funds programs and services that are targeted for one of the impact areas. Over 100 volunteers serve on the panels that review applications for program and service funding. The Community Impact process requires that agencies specify outcomes during the application process for the funding that is requested. Depending on the impact area, funding for a program may be for one, two or three years, contingent upon semi-annual reports of outcome achievement.
