100 New Coats Donated to Local Children in Need

United Way and Herb Philipson’s Partner for Third Year Giving the Gift of Warmth

UTICA, NY (November 11, 2011) - United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica partnered with Herb Philipson’s for the third consecutive year to donate 100 brand new coats to 100 local children in need.

“We are thrilled to partner with Herb Philipson’s again this year,” United Way Executive Director Brenda Episcopo said. “The need in our community is great. This wonderful partnership allows us to make a real difference in our local area.”

Four area programs or schools received coat donations Friday morning at the United Way office in downtown Utica. Among the recipients is Karri McDaniels from the Catholic Charities Kernan Elementary After School Program.

“Many of the children we work with on a daily basis have no means of affording good winter coats,” McDaniels said. “I feel good knowing that we can now provide them with something they truly need. Of course, toys and presents are always great gifts to give, but this donation will keep them warm all winter long.”

Other donation recipients include the Town of Webb School, Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, and the Herkimer Area Resource Center.

“This year’s donation recipients truly represent the breadth of need within our extended community,” United Way Community Engagement Manager Adam Lawless said. “Our local United Way serves most of Oneida County and all of Herkimer County, which represents a great deal of need. We, at United Way, are very happy to be able to fulfill some of that need with today’s generous donation from Herb Philipson’s.”
