Utica, NY (July 19, 2011) - Erin Hamlin, member of the 2010 USA Olympic Luge Team, returns to Central New York and brings along some of her Olympian pals to give back to our local community. Hamlin is joined by her USA Luge teammates, Preston Griffall, Chris Mazder and Matt Mortensen, along with family, friends, and long-time supporters as they volunteer for United Way at this week’s Saranac Thursdays. Hamlin will spend the day introducing her teammates to Utica and life in Central New York. “I’ve always been proud to be from this area,” Hamlin said. “This is a great opportunity to return to my hometown, show my teammates around, and give back to my community which continues to support me throughout my athletic career.” Saranac Thursdays, now in its 13th year has raised more than $300,000 for United Way. The F.X. Matt Brewery also is a proud supporter of the USA Luge team as it travels the world showcasing local and national talent. “As a local company, the brewery has been a long-time advocate for our community and continues to give back in new and creative ways,” said Meghan Fraser, spokesperson for the F.X. Matt Brewery. “Having Erin and her team volunteer at Saranac Thursdays is a perfect pairing to highlight a few ways the brewery gives back.” “Having great success with celebrity volunteers earlier this season, we’re excited to have another local celebrity support such a wonderful fundraising event for United Way,” Adam Lawless, United Way Community Engagement Manager, said. “We encourage the community to support our local United Way and Team Hamlin as they volunteer their time serving Saranac and Utica Club products at Saranac Thursdays this week. As always, a portion of the proceeds benefits United Way and the many people in need throughout our community.” Later this summer, Central New York will have another opportunity to support the USA Luge team when they visit in August for the Slider Search. Team Hamlin wants to ensure that young athletes in our area are given a chance to become part of the Luge family by participating in this program. The Slider Search will return to Utica on August 20 and will take place on Cornelia Street. The Slider Search has helped discover athletes like Hamlin and other CNY natives.www.usaluge.org for more information.
