Title: Director of Community Investment
Reports to: Executive Director

Purpose of Position: Oversees the investment of funds into outcome-driven programs and the management of partnerships to address community needs. Identify and assist in prioritizing community needs. Administer entire funding process, including recruitment, retention and management of community investment volunteers. Serves as primary liaison to community agencies and manages agency relations. Participate in fund-raising efforts. Represent United Way in local, regional and statewide community meetings.

Essential Functions:

  • Study the changing health and human service needs of the community, the assets addressing those needs and make recommendations to the Executive Director on possible solutions.
  • Build rationale for fiscal decision-making based on financial allocations, program outcome expectations and prioritization of community needs.
  • Ensure the allocation of resources in accordance with established priorities emphasizing considerations of accountability, efficiency and effectiveness. Manage allocations process including: administration of Request For Proposals (RFP), review of proposals/budgets/materials, management of community investment teams, formulating recommendations to the board of directors, notify agencies of funding decisions and providing feedback to agencies.
  • Manage a portfolio of partner agencies with the purpose of: a) ensuring requirements of contract are upheld; b) sharing best practices with agencies in the pursuit of community goals; and c) developing and encouraging relationships among UW partners and community stakeholders.
  • Provide direction, leadership and education to Community Investment Teams.
  • Provide on-going technical assistance in the implementation and continued reporting of program outcome measurements and community investment to volunteers, the Board of Directors and funded partners.
  • Assist in development of United Way strategic plan.
  • Participate in local and statewide advocacy on identified community issues. Assist in development of UWVGU advocacy efforts.
  • Oversee identified community initiative, to be announced in spring 2012.
  • Represent the organization at various planning groups and meetings.
  • Other tasks as designated by the Executive Director

Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in social science, education or health related field and two years experience required. Non-profit management and grant making experience preferred.

  • Ability to meet aggressive deadlines and handle multiple priorities.
  • Volunteer or staff management experience.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to relate well with and motivate people with diplomacy.
  • Ability to maintain and analyze complex statistics.
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency with office computer technology and job-related application software.
  • Facilitation skills and ability to build consensus, collaborate with and convene multiple partners in efforts that produce specific deliverables and demonstrable outcome.
  • Ability to assess the impact of legislation and it’s relation to community needs.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
